Privacy policy

Zupum is operated by AppKPL Edtech India Private Limited. This policy explains what we collect when you sign in and edit videos, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

Last updated: 16 September 2026

Information we collect

  • Account data. When you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and profile picture. We store these to identify your account and your plan.
  • Video content. Your raw clip is loaded and edited in your browser. Short audio and frame samples may be sent to our AI provider to generate the edit plan (captions, B-roll suggestions, music choice).
  • Usage data. Basic technical logs such as device, browser, timestamps and error reports, used to keep the service reliable.

How we use your information

  • To create your account, keep you signed in and record your subscription plan.
  • To generate captions, B-roll and music suggestions for the video you upload.
  • To provide support, prevent abuse and improve the product.
  • To send service updates and, if you opt in, product news.

We do not sell your personal data or your video content.

AI processing

Edit plans are generated with third-party AI models. Only the minimum needed input (short samples of your clip and its transcript) is sent for processing. We do not use your footage to train our own models.

Storage and security

Rendering and export happen locally in your browser, so finished videos are downloaded directly to your device. Account records are stored with our infrastructure providers using encryption in transit, access controls and row-level security.

Why we are allowed to use it (legal basis)

  • Contract. Account details, plan records and the processing of the video you upload - we need these to give you the service you asked for.
  • Legal obligation. Invoices, tax records and payment references.
  • Legitimate interests. Security logs, abuse prevention and error reports that keep the service working.
  • Consent. Visit measurement and any product news. You choose this in the cookie banner and can change or withdraw it at any time through the "Cookie choices" link in the footer.

Data retention

  • Account and plan records: while your account is active, then deleted on request.
  • Delivered edits and your uploaded library images: kept in your account until you delete them or your account is closed.
  • Visit and usage measurement: up to 26 months.
  • Editor step log and page recordings: 13 months, then removed automatically.
  • Billing and tax records: up to 8 years, as Indian law requires.

Request deletion at any time and we will remove your account records, except where we must keep limited billing information to meet legal obligations.

Where your data is handled (international transfers)

We are based in India and our infrastructure, AI and payment providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens for EEA or UK users, transfers rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses together with encryption in transit and access controls.

Editor recordings and step logging

To find out where the editor is confusing or slow, we log how people move through it: which panel they open, how long an edit takes, and where they give up. Two tools do this, and both start only after you accept measurement cookies:

  • Your own step log. We store a short list of actions (for example "started a download") with timings on our own servers, tied to your account so support can help when something fails.
  • Microsoft Clarity. A page recording showing clicks, scrolling and hesitation. Microsoft Clarity B.V. acts on our behalf under a data-processing agreement and may not use the recording for its own purposes.

Your footage is never part of any recording. The preview is drawn on a graphics surface that page recorders cannot capture, and every element that shows one of your own pictures is explicitly masked. Recordings never include your email address or password.

Who else sees your data (processors)

We share the minimum necessary with providers who work on our behalf: our hosting and database provider, our AI provider for generating the edit plan, our speech-to-text provider for captions, Razorpay for payments, our email delivery provider, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity for measurement and page recordings only if you accept measurement cookies. None of them may use your data for their own purposes, and we never sell it.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you may ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or withdraw consent for marketing. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the GDPR also gives you the right to restrict or object to certain processing, the right to receive your data in a portable format, and the right not to be subject to decisions made purely by automated means with a legal effect on you (we make none).

Write to hi@zupum.com and we will respond within one month. If you believe we have not handled your data properly, you may complain to your local data protection authority.

Cookies and similar storage

The first time you visit we ask what you allow. Nothing beyond essential storage runs until you choose, and you can change your choice at any time using the "Cookie choices" link in the footer.

  • Essential (always on). Keeping you signed in, remembering your light or dark theme and your editor settings, and remembering your cookie choice itself. These are first-party and cannot be switched off without breaking the service.
  • Measurement (only with your consent). Google Analytics and our own page-visit counter, which tell us which pages people find useful. Decline and neither is loaded.
  • Advertising. None. We set no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Children

Zupum is not intended for users under 13 years of age.
