How to edit a video with AI (free, step by step)
If you have never edited before, this is the shortest path from a raw phone recording to a publish-ready video. It takes about five minutes and needs no editing software.
1. Upload your raw video
Sign in with Google, open the Zupum studio and drop a clip in any format, up to about two minutes. It is processed in your browser session.
2. Let the AI analyse the footage
Zupum transcribes every spoken word with acoustic timestamps, reads the content, and decides where cutaways, hooks, music and sound design belong.
3. Review the automatic edit
The preview already contains word-synced captions, B-roll, transitions, background music, sound effects and a colour grade.
4. Adjust the details
Change the caption style, drag captions up or down, swap a cutaway between stock, AI-generated, graphic or your own upload, replace the background, or change the music.
5. Export the finished MP4
Download a full-quality H.264/AAC MP4 at your source resolution with captions burned in, plus an optional generated thumbnail for publishing.

Tips for a better AI edit
A clean recording gives the AI more to work with, and the result needs fewer manual fixes.
- Record in a quiet room; Zupum's denoise helps but clean input is better
- Speak in complete thoughts so the AI can find natural cutaway points
- Keep uploads under two minutes for the fastest analysis
- Shoot vertical for Reels, Shorts and TikTok; landscape for YouTube
- Leave a strong opening line — the behind-the-person hook text uses it
